We did it. We have a concept.

The first ideation stage has produced an idea we can all stand behind, and it’s all hands on deck now. Prototype development starts next week. Till then, we’ve got a few things to prepare: user persona, flow chart, user journey, defining assets based on the core idea and functionality of our slice of the pie that is our prototype, and researching topics for the concept. I feel good. The whirlwind of the past few days has settled, and the pieces are falling into place slowly but surely.

Maren reminded us of the Cone of Uncertainty, a concept developed by NASA’s Software Engineering Lab. It’s a graphical representation of the amount of unknowns and risks during a software production sprint. In simple terms, when you start doing something, you know very little and the risks are high. To reduce the uncertainty, you research, develop prototypes, test them, document your findings, and use those to move into the next production sprint. A lot can change along the way. Kinda like life.

Trust the process, I have been repeatedly told. I try to remember that (and not always succeeding) when I’m floating in the middle of the ocean in my little ship, being tumbled around by waves of ideas and concepts and all the unknowns, but also by the doubt, the insecurity, and the inner turmoil that the creative process also brings with it. Trust the process. Sounds easy, but it ain’t. And yet, I’ve learned so much about idea and story development these past weeks. But more importantly, I’ve learned so much more about myself as a creator, an artist, and a woman.

And this woman needs to catch up on sleep.
Till next week!

p.s. I found Maren’s sticker. More here
