The day she said, revolt again!
Today was ‘the day’. We were received by the Freies Werkstatt Theater (FWT) group at the entrance. They showed us around the entire building from their personal offices to the costume rooms and rehearsal arenas. The place is well designed to harbor creativity.
As the audience started to trickle in we caught them by surprise. We interviewed them about their reasons for coming to the play, their expectations, their backgrounds and whatever they felt vocal about. I was delighted by the candidness they exhibited despite the language barrier. They were challenged to express themselves in English even though the play was in German and they responded flawlessly. One of them had travelled from Dusseldorf just to catch the play. I must have interviewed around 15 people yesterday and they all had the same expectation which was to have their voices on feminism echoed through the actors and draw fresh perspectives. In the end they came away feeling that their beliefs on sexism were validated as one, with the group of people gathered.
The play surpassed all our expectations through intimate and thought provoking drama. The actresses were three volcanos on stage, swirling around us like fireballs to sensitize our minds with their energetic performance. Midway through the play I was baptized into feminism with the actress giving me a vulva :-)
The beautiful night ended with Jimena treating us to Kölsch Beer. Prost!
