Sauron’s Eye
I have to confess that as much as I love it, I had given up on writing this blog. After spending decades in the service providing industry, production becomes a well defined block and you just stick to that with your nose down to the task at hand.
We quickly listed out the required assets. The vulva stars were the highlight of our prototype and I was completely aware of the time required for designing and creating an asset in 3D. Since this was a prototype I started searching for ready assets. All I could find were vulvas which could be used for medical purposes. This clinical format did not fit at all with our the stylized, fantastic visualization. I must say I was a bit disappointed with my CG (computer graphics) community for not putting a stylized vulva out there. On the other hand, I found brilliant concept art on the subject. A little encouraged now, I scoured the web for ready gif animations. What I found was trending towards porn. All I needed was a little movement of a vulva to give it life. Somewhat hesitantly, I went back to my pencils and paper. Weirdly enough, I was thinking of Sauron’s eye while drawing a vulva. I started animating in Procreate, and I made the vulva open and close. I obviously went a bit overboard with Sauron’s eye peering over my shoulder. Though it was an easy fix, I gave up on the idea of building from scratch. Frantically running against time, there was also the insecurity of how much of it would get used. To give myself a break I started designing the world inside the vagina and I felt inspired by Van Gough’s Starry night.
Here’s the final gif that was produced. The user interaction follows: The user clicks on the vulva star, the vulva opens and the audio file plays. To this, Lea Schorling from Invisible Room added that the vulva can go back to the default start position once the audio has finished playing. She also pointed out that we needed a poster with the QR code. These are the times when you thank your ‘stars’ for having Lea to keep you on track!
