Tuesday INTERVIEW — JKB’s Bike Ride

This is the first interview of a long weekly series that I’m starting to introduce new people, who are doing or have done crazy thing, to you every week.

I will ask the same 4 or 3 question to every guest.

The first one for this week is: Jonathan (or JKB).

He’s half English, half Danish. Born and raised in London.

What’s crazy thing that he is doing? He has pedaled over 10,000km from London to Central Asia without training and now he’s travelling the world with his bike: check his blog or his facebook page.

R: How did you learn money to travel with your bike?

Jkb: I was working lots of hours doing loads of jobs before I left trying to save up as much money as possible. Luckily I could move back to London and live with my Dad and save some money on rent — that’s the killer!

R: What would you tell to yourself or what piece of advice would you give at your 18–19 years old?

Jkb: I would tell myself not to worry about any advice anyone else has to give you. Listen to them, of course, and consider them properly — but make sure it is you who is deciding which steps to take in life. When someone tells you you need to find a proper job, that it won’t look good on your CV to by travelling around the world etc. smile at them, say thanks for the advice and just do your own thing anyway.

R: What‘s your daily routine/life?

Jkb: Wake up at dawn. Climb out the tent. These days I have to scrape the ice of my tent and hope the early morning sun can dry it a little. Cook breakfast and pack up. There isn’t much light at the moment so I need to cycle as much as possible to get through the desert before the worst of winter arrives. Pop into a small town to find some cheap lunch and/or buy supplies for camping. Ride until dusk and put the tent up in the desert. Do the same tomorrow!

R: If you could go 5 years in the future from now, how do you think would be your daily routine/life?

Jkb: That’s impossible. Probably not cycling around the world anymore I imagine, but hopefully I’ll never loose the wanderlust and I’ll be working somewhere dreaming about my next ride!
