Facebook Container is a new firefox browser extension by Mozilla. It protects facebook users from being tracked around the web by facebook third party cookies.

How Facebook Container works?

Facebook collects users browsing data by tracking the websites they visit. Mozilla, a strong privacy advocate, has attempted to tackle this issue by creating its latest browser extension.

This new piece of software by Mozilla, works by isolating facebook inside a container to stop the privacy invasive tracking.

It works by separating the facebook tab in such a way that its makes it harder for facebook to track other websites visited by users.

Right after the installation, it logs the user out of facebook and deletes facebook cookies. Next time, when the user logs into facebook, a special colored tab with facebook written in blue indicates that the facebook container is active.

Once the extension is active, all external links from facebook are loaded outside of the container, making sure that it does not track the links outside of the special container.

On the other side, facebook share buttons present on other websites are loaded inside the container to ensure safe browsing from outside the container as well.

Limitations

Facebook collects user data from various sources, tracking users browsing is just one technique.

Although, facebook container does make it harder for facebook to collect your data. It should be clear that installing it, does not guarantee your online privacy.

And, it only works on Mozilla Firefox browser.
