Artificial Intelligence VS The Developers
Not so long ago artificial intelligence was only the subject of theoretical discussion, but in today’s time of rapid change, we’ve come to the point where it’s clear that AI will strongly change the technology sector, labour market, and everyday life in general.
What really is artificial intelligence? The general definition doesn’t exist, but we use the term to describe artificial, inanimate systems that show some kind of “intelligence”, which refers to learning based on experience and gathering new information through coping in certain circumstances and conditions.
AI in everyday life
AI actually has actually been here for some time; it “hides” behind the Facebook and Google algorithms, monitors activity on social media and streaming platforms, recognizes faces in photographs, decide which ads you’ll encounter whilst browsing the web, and allows many more activities that we already take for granted.
Simultaneously, AI is a key piece of the puzzle for the efficient functioning of digital assistants, such as Siri or Cortana, as well as in cutting-edge solutions such as self-driving cars. That’s also only the beginning. Smart software will soon be able to “self-diagnose” and get rid of their bugs, and it’s expected that AI, amongst other factors, will considerably improve energy efficiency, capacity planning, the performance of IT systems, and managing expenses and budgets.
AI vs Developers
However, one of the trending questions recently is how will machine learning and smart algorithms affect the jobs of programmers and developers. Will code and applications soon be developed by AI, without any human assistance? Will future technology reduce developers to just supervisory roles or give them no role at all?
In this case, we should keep in mind that various media articles and research interpretations come with rather excessive conclusions. No, we’re not even close to the situation that would create a scene from the “Terminator” or “Matrix”, and hardly anything like that will happen at all (fiction is still fiction). Yes, AI will shake up the labour market and certainly make some jobs unnecessary, but that doesn’t the same can be said about human contribution.
Furthermore, certain analysts and experts look at the whole topic with a fair amount of optimism, expecting that the development of AI will allow developers a higher level of productivity, creativity, and innovation in their work.
