Instagram has had several years of creation on one of the largest social networks. The specialty of Instagram is that it focuses solely on photography as the media should express their feelings. It’s a mobile app that lets you create and edit a photo, and then share the photo with your last people. If you look back in time, Instagram has undergone major changes and has had to grow more and more. It is currently under the umbrella of Facebook, which is just adding, though it has slowly started pricing and other social networks where the video is focused (we primarily think of Snapchat).

How Instagram started

Instagram originally called Burbn was created by Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger and launched in October 2010 exclusively on iOS. Android version was launched in 2012. It was created to able people to share videos and photos online within one click and to share it with their friends and family. As it first launched Instagram app was within one month downloaded more that one million times. It went on to be bought by Facebook for $1 billion in 2012. It now has over 600 million active users and is still increasing quickly.

At first Instagram like all other social media was known for likes. Likes were invented like online digital currency. More likes you get more popular you are. In 2019 Instagram started analyzing the USA market to remove Instagram likes from its platform. Now its question do we need to say goodbye to likes on social media? How it will reflect on Instagram and other social media. As a digital marketing expert, I would say that the only thing here is changing focus from one thing to another.

In the first place, likes were the main “money” that guided Instagram profiles from popular to unpopular. As some companies discovered that it’s easy to buy followers and likes and that it was on longer focus of success Instagram started removing it. Nowadays its too easy to because “popular” on social media. And we can’t any longer keep track of how much for real people engage with our brand.

So, why is Instagram hiding likes?

It all comes down to making Instagram a safe and healthy place to spend time online, which is important for everyone’s mental health.

The idea is to de-pressurize Instagram and makes it a space that’s more focused on connections, conversations, and community, especially for young people.

They made a solution, which is possible that we see how much people liked our photo but people that are liking it can’t see how much people liked some photos.

It comes to that that Instagram will be a healthier place to “waste “ your time on. But we’ll still be able too to see how much people engage with our post and keep tracking improvement that is made on our social media platform. So marketing companies will still be able to keep track wich influencer to hire to be an ambassador of their brand
