Tesla, the car of the future?
By now everyone has heard about Tesla and Elon Musk the billionaire. Tesla Motors got the name form physicist Nikola Tesla. Tesla is an American automotive and energy company based in Palo Alto, California. The company specializes in electric car manufacturing and, through its SolarCity subsidiary, solar panel manufacturing. Tesla was founded in July 2003, by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, under the name Tesla Motors. Tesla Motors shortened its name to Tesla in February 2017. Its main vehicle manufacturing facility at the Tesla Factory in Fremont. Tesla is known for its cars, Model S, Model X and Model 3 and Roadster. Every vehicle is different and every vehicle has advantages and disadvantages over the other models. Tesla also introduced the safest truck ever the Tesla Semi. So we can say that they are trying to get on top of every Auto-moto class.
Let`s talk about cars
Tesla started to sell cars in 2012 and it has sold over 287 000 units from 2012 and 2018. The most sold car was the Tesla Model S (263 000 units). Tesla ranked as the world’s best selling plug-in passenger car manufacturer in 2018, both as a brand and by the automotive group.
Model S
The Tesla Model S is a premium all-electric five-door liftback car. It was introduced in June 2012. Official range of the Model S is 540km, that was the highest range of any other electric car. The car has become the best car in its class in every category. It is equipped with all kind of tech, the most interesting one is Autopilot, and it comes with the standard model, so you do not need to pay for it. Tesla Model S was the top selling plug-in electric car worldwide in 2015 and 2016. Global Model S sales passed 250,000 units in September 2018. The price for Model S is around $75 000 to $100 000, it all depends on what equipment do you chose for the car.
Model X
The Tesla Model X is a mid-size all-electric luxury crossover utility vehicle. The car was introduced in 2012 and the production began in 2015. The range of the car is 380–470km. This vehicle is different from the others by design and with the doors. What do I mean by the doors? Model X uses gull-wing doors which open upwards instead of traditional automotive doors. According to Elon, this was the safest SUV and in 2017 it got 5 stars from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for the crash test, the only SUV to have done so. What is interesting with the standard model of Model X, you need to pay $5000 extra to get the autopilot option, which you get for free in the Model S. The price for Model X is around $140 000.
Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is the first model to not be expensive or premium. This model is low priced but high volume. It was meant for mass production and for the people that do not want to spend vast amounts of money on a car. The long-range version of the car delivers up to 400km. The car was introduced in 2016 and in that year only, Tesla received 325 000 reservations for the car. The production began in 2017 and they were producing 5000 cars in a week, Model 3 got many technology features from the Model S, but by design was very different and smaller. Model 3 was named Car of the Year and in 2018 it was given the award for the Design of the Year. The price for Model 3 is from $34 000 and $52 000.
Should you buy a Tesla car?
The answer is yes and no. Car world is still not ready for electric cars and people are not feeling comfortable with them. We are on a good track and in the near future, there will only be electric cars. Tesla says that if you now buy a Tesla, you will save around $5000 to $7000 a year on gas, which is a lot and a great investment. The problem that is still very frequent, is the charging stations. Yes, you can charge your car at home, but it will take a long time and also you need to buy the extension. There should be faster-charging stations.
