Dargan, Failed God of Voids

Dargan was as empty as the void he would later come to cherish. He was intended to inherit the essences of Arcyna and Leviathan, but Leviathan’s banishment caused the creation of Dargan to fail in the final steps. It was said when he was made the world became colder, as if all he inherited was tainted by regret. He seemed to live with no purpose and only grew more hollow with time. Dargan was left to his own devices in the southern forest of Valoris where all he could do was consume the surrounding energies in an attempt to become whole. Dargan never felt what he was doing was wrong, coming to believe his only purpose was to consume. He didn’t enjoy the endless emptiness and didn’t know what he needed to do to stop it.

Caelia’s deal gave him a new outlook on life. The energy she gave him was like nothing he experienced before. He ate slowly, savoring the light and warmth he lacked. But even all of that power could not sustain him forever and he understood this. Dargan no longer wished to be known as a failed god. He asked Caelia for aid in looking for a permanent solution to his problem.

Caelia suggested working with the human mages like the gods before them. Dargan was hesitant, but Caelia always found a way to convince him. Years had passed and despite their best efforts, no progress was made. Dargan concluded that since he was a creature of darkness, he must look for answers among the void. Caelia refused, claiming they could find a way to make him whole in light.

When Caelia chose a mortal over her own brother, it set in motion events that would birth a new god. Dargan, now understanding he stood alone in this world, left the Mages behind in search of darker forms of magic. He was looking to embrace who he was, rather than run away any longer. Loyal mages who wished to serve followed him despite his desire for isolation.

Dargan did not restrict his mages. Their actions brought chaos and threatened the balance. Caelia could not let this continue. She confronted him in Murwell, but Dargan did not care for her words. Emboldened by his newly found purpose, he attacked Caelia. They fought and despite his power, he was defeated. Dargan was split so many times he was able to withstand the power of Caelia. When he was thrown into the Cistern, the souls within attempted to take possession of the vessel. Dargan was able to maintain his body though the immense energies of the Cistern rendered him unconscious.

He woke up to a shattered reflection of Murwell in a world unknown to him, a world devoid of light and warmth. It was here he finally found home and his true purpose. He would free the mortals of the hypocrisy of the Old Gods.
