Tenebrye Mages

Enter Tenebrye.

“Death is the only truth.”

The Tenebrye Mages were first created by Leviathan after being exiled and his sanity began to fade. In an effort to no longer feel isolated, he crafted the mages alone just as the gods created the Illumnia Mages together. He was unable to teach them properly the arts of Light, Dark, and Life so they mastered Death. Their initial purpose was to act as judges for the souls that came to Tenebrye, rewarding the worthy and punishing the guilty.

Leviathan allowed them more freedom and power as a reward for their efforts. He let them rule in his stead while he toiled away with further creations. With a whole world at their disposal, they made plans to shape it as they wanted. The powerful souls that came to them were granted an opportunity to join the mages and those that passed the test were gifted unimaginable power.

As the Mages grew in number, they spread across Tenebrye and claimed the paradise for themselves that was once meant for the worthy souls of Illumnia. The souls rebelled but were no match for the Mages’ power. Those who resisted were enslaved as skeletal servants or were torn into soul fragments for experimentation. Those who submitted would eventually become followers and diehard loyalists.

At the height of their power, a great disturbance occurred in the heart of the Alahodra Desert. The image of a broken city began to form and within they found a living mage in possession of a great power. A handful of new mages and their followers tried to subdue him but they were obliterated in mere moments. The Elder Mages of Tenebrye, in awe of his powers, knelt in reverence.

This mage was brought to Leviathan’s chambers where he would exit a few days later, brimming with godly power. Leviathan had disappeared and this new mage became the ruler of Tenebrye. The Tenebrye Mages were then taught how to craft vessels to contain souls and serve as the Guardians of Tenebrye. Much like Leviathan, they spent most of their time creating.

One of these Vessels was an amalgamation of Illumnia and Tenebrye mages, meant to serve as the ultimate sorcerer. When Caelia of Illumnia received a vision of this creation, she snuck into Tenebrye and stole the vessel. Angered by the loss of his greatest asset, the mage-king declared war on Illumnia and tasked the Tenebrye Mages with finding a way to tear down the barrier between worlds so that he may merge them as one and wage war with the world of Light.

They believed it could be done but require immense power from the other side. The mage-king and Caelia were the only ones who seemed to posses the ability to cross world freely. Disguising himself as a traveling magician, the mage-king would cross again to Illumnia in search of answers and to lay the groundwork for the Tenebrye Mages to change reality.
