The desert wasn’t always a realm of death and deterioration. It was once a place just as beautiful as Illumnia’s most stunning landscapes. One could find grasslands as tall as any forest filled with critters like the Mbosa, a mammal sporting eight legs and a snout that curved into a crescent. These creatures barely touched the surface of conquering the land. That privilege was unique to the people that lived there.

A race of humans called the Yondao built kingdoms of white wood as hard as any metal and an orange stone native to the land. They were a peaceful people and focused on trade through waterways and railways built through the grass forests. They worshipped the Great Unknown, a god that reflected all the gods under one entity. Statues were created but were nothing to look at as his image is a cloaked figure with nothing but shadow under the hood. The gods found the creative religion of the Yondao endearing and so let it continue.

The Alahodra used to be called the Azure Web for its countless rivers that broke off from the main river, the Alahodra. It was the deepest river in the world and was home to many different species of snakes with hooked trunks, a giant hippo-like mammal with no eyes or mouth, and insects the size of humans. Hunters had their work cut out for them when traversing the wild. Needless to say, the barren desert was once a land teeming with primordial life.
