Want to make sure you get into the (super awesome award winning hugely popular) Digital Service Design course this Fall? Last year the course got 4.5/5.0 avg grade from students, so it is a good course :)

Here’s how to gather extra points. Every point matters when calculating the 20 participants that fit to the course (last year we had 41 applicants).

Before the instructions, here are the clients for the course:

  • Väestöliitto, the Family Federation of Finland, is a family welfare organization working in the social and health sector. Their task is to design a service to maintain & enhance romantic relationships over a physical distance.
  • Accenture, a leading global consultancy. Their task is about designing their on-boarding process for new employees.
  • KPGM, a leading global accounting and consultancy. Their design task is coming soon.
  • Teknologiateollisuuden 100v säätiö (Technology Industries of Finland Centennial Foundation), is a foundation that promotes growth and renewal of Finnish business environment. Their design task is coming soon.
  • Mandatum Life, is a leading Finnish life insurance company. Their design task is coming soon.

Then the application process:

Note! If you are an Information Networks student with ICT in Business as your master’s track, you are picked first (the course is compulsory). However, if there are many of you from that track, then better get those extra points as well :)

We also have a quota of 5 people for non-AaltoSCI students (e.g., ARTS, BIZ, ENG etc.) to encourage cross-pollination.

And here are the steps to help you with your odds:

  1. Sign up in the pre-registration form: https://forms.gle/Tb4ksb9GW6aCVqBU7 Having your name here before August 19th will give you +1 point.
  2. Write a voluntary short motivational statement why you want to take the course and how does it fit your studies. The success of this course is based on having motivated students. Your motivational letter gives you +1 point. Send your letter (in Finnish or English) to risto.sarvas(ät)aalto.fi & tuomo(ät)rentle.io by August 18th, with the subject “DSD motivational letter”.
  3. Register to Oodi (registration open from June 5th to August 31st). You must register to get to the course.

My co-teacher Tuomo Laine and myself will then rank the applicants and let them know as soon as possible. The course starts on Monday 9th but we will give you some pre-work before that and we will form the teams as well.

Hope to see you in the course :)
