Chosen topic

Technology is always watching and hearing you through your devices. It tracks every move of individuals and collects huge amounts of data. Allowing apps to access your camera and microphone, leaves you vulnerable to having your data shared with several different organisations.

Exploring themes

Dystopia

  • In the future, everything that is connected to the internet listens to you at all times. There is evidence of this already happening, for example, Samsung TV, Alexa and Apple.
  • We are already allowing thousands of apps access to our location, in the future we may have no privacy with where we are and this may lead to cases of stalking.
  • Webcams are becoming much easier to access even with little technological expertise. Something as simple as a website can give you access to personal cameras.

Ethical considerations

  • Privacy invasion
  • Confidentiality

Questions to ask

  • What are the limits to this?
  • To what extent is this already happening?
