Thank you for your contributions to the Internet of Things (IoT) session yesterday. I hope you found the content interesting and thought-provoking.

We covered the growth of the IoT and how technology has, and is, developing at a rapid pace. Who will be left out from the changes who will benefit?

CC0 Public Domain

From conversations about Ding: the IoT doorbell that lets you answer the door from anywhere; to the ethical considerations of self-driving cars: who would give up their car and just rent a self-driving one? Not many people in the room thought this was a good idea.

Your IoT word cloud

Mentimeter wordcloud 2017

Looking at the word cloud again, it looks as if the dystopians may have won the day — Bad and Lazy are the most visible but there were many positive comments as well e.g. Good, innovative, exciting and growth. However, we know at least one of you had fun with it (Queen Elizabeth?!), so…

Digisoc 3 themes

Many themes cropped up which you could think about developing for your final piece of assessment, digisoc3, e.g.:

  • How will the IoT affect (negatively and/or positively) our current ways of working in the future?
  • Who will benefit from the IoT and how? Companies, customers?
  • Will the IoT make the digital divide worse or help reduce it? How/why?

If you want to look at the presentation again you can access it on prezi.

Anything else?

If you missed the Internet of Things session, and haven’t told us already you can email us (details in Blackboard). We’d recommend accessing the Topic D page, reading the comments, and leaving one of your own, as a start.

Also if you have any questions/comments about the session you can email us or leave a comment below.

Look forward to seeing you at next week’s session on The Individual.
