Drake. Drizzy. Champagnepapi. Whatever you know him by, it is no doubt that Aubrey Drake Graham is one of the biggest names in the music industry. With a net worth of $90 million and music that has earned him the title of the artist with the second-most Number 1 albums, it is clear Drake’s albums are undeniable hit makers. However, his online presence has definitely attributed towards his success and we’re gonna talk about why.

Twitter

One of Drake’s most memorable uses of social media was when he dropped a surprise album on Twitter, tweeting an iTunes link to his new album. Fans went into a frenzy, and the album broke Spotify’s first-week streaming record. In addition, Drake frequently makes it onto Twitter Moments, a section of Twitter that summarises what’s popular on Twitter on a given day. Recently, the rapper appeared on Twitter Moments for spending $50,000 in a supermarket in Miami, paying for every customer in the store. A few days before that, he was on the same page for surprising high school students by shooting a music video at their high school and donating $25,000. This “good guy” side to the notorious Hip Hop star is something people love to talk about, and take to social media to do so. After all, who doesn’t love a rapper gone good?

Lavish Lifestyle

Admit it, we’ve all caught ourselves pining forthat private jet and bottomless champagne life. People are drawn to looking at lives that are far outside of their reality and Drake’s Instagram definitely gives a glimpse into the ultra-glam life that people are so captivated by.

Humble-gram

Despite his luxurious lifestyle, Drake’s Instagram frequently features pictures of his mother and his childhood. He makes his family values and humble origins clear through his posts and even released a single dedicated to his beginnings called “Started From The Bottom”, as well as using an old picture of his father on the cover of his most recent album “More Life”. These modest posts allow followers to relate to the star and make him seem more down to earth. This interesting balance of content has earned Drake the title of the 38th most followed person on Instagram.

Memes

Being one of the biggest names in the world does not come without people making fun of you. However, Drake has no difficulty poking fun at himself and continually manages to turn mockery into money. When the music video for the hit single “Hotline Bling” was released, the focus was less on the gorgeous models, but more on Drake’s awkward and less-than-steller dance moves. The footage was almost instantly edited by internet users, giving his moves hilarious new meanings. Drake reposted various of these on his social media accounts. Through being “meme-ified”, the video quickly became viral, spreading his brand and music to the world at no cost.

Whether it be surpising fans, posting throwback pictures or making us yearn a little bit of luxury, Drake’s public online presence is built through engaging with Twitter, Instagram and memes. It successfully builds his brand and allows him to remain the most loveable rapper in the industry.
