Reflecting on 2021

I don’t know if it’s just me or 2021 has been a tough year for the whole universe.

For me, 2021 was one of the most challenging years of my life, physically and mentally.

Usually, I’m really good at facing challenges. I always have a positive mindset so even when I reach rock bottom, I don’t care. It’s really easy for me to bounce back up. But during the past few months, I let my problems consume me.

It was hard to be myself and have a normal life because most of my problems were not under my control. I still tried to bring certain things under my control, and it only made things worse.

Have you ever thought about what we could do when we come across problems that are not totally under our control?

The challenges I faced in 2021 made me think of this really hard and I have come up with a few things that we could do to stay resilient to face these types of challenges

Focus on what’s under your control

In one of the holy scriptures of Hinduism, Bhagavad Gita, it is mentioned to focus on things that are under your control in any given situation, take the necessary action, and move on.

Most of the time we overthink and worry about things going wrong without even taking the necessary action.

And if you think hard, out of all the things that we’re worried about, only a certain amount of things are totally under our control. So why don’t we just give it a try?

It is also proved that action takers do better than overthinkers even if they’re more talented/skillful.

If you’re hurt by somebody, remember it’s their actions that hurt you, and you’re not responsible for that. Forgive them and move on because their actions are not under your control.

Think of it this way. If you could control the way everyone acts, then why do you still hear of criminal offenses in your society? Forget about criminal offenses. We still do hear feuds and between people from the grapevine right?

So the most you can do is to focus on what’s under your control

Your health matters

Things like money, and reputation — you can earn them back even if you lose them. In fact, you can bounce back 10 times better.

But your health is not something that you can ignore.

You can work really hard for an important exam for years by sacrificing a lot of things like quality time with your loved ones, partying with friends, Netflix time, etc.

Your health should definitely be one of them because if you fail your exam you can try it again.

But if you get any kind of health issue, then it is really hard to get back to normal. When you start with your treatment, you’ll have to deal with your weak health, you’ll have to balance your time between important commitments like lectures, work, and exams, and curing certain health issues could also be expensive.

So what you need to do is eat healthily, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and meditate regularly. Meditation can do wonders in your life. It keeps you relaxed and as a result, keeps your mental health in check. Journalling is also a healthy practice to maintain your mental health.

Express gratitude

There are so many things that you could be thankful for.

Did you know that worrying is a result of a lack of gratitude?

When you express gratitude, you start recognizing things that you need to be thankful for, and you will realize that you have a lot of things around you to be thankful for, and you’ll become a happier person.

I used to be a happier person when I was grateful for things. In the past few months, I did not do that, and that should have been one of the reasons for most of my tough times.

Expressing gratitude is definitely one of the greatest habits that you can follow in your life. It’s truly amazing. You’ll feel happier wherever you are in life.

Be grateful for everything — Good times and bad times too, as your bad times would have definitely taught you great lessons more than your good times.

Conclusion

With these simple tips, make sure that you learn from your mistakes, self-reflect on your progress regularly, and enjoy every moment in life. There is no problem without a solution in the world, and we can definitely overcome our challenges.

So let’s follow all these tips in 2022, and be the best versions of ourselves in 2022.
