The story of Ravananugraha
The iconography of Hindu temple sculptures are based on stories valued by Hinduism and passed on through centuries. Here is one example of a story that had made an appearance time and again — the story of Ravananugraha or Ravananugraha-murti where Ravana shakes Mount Kailash.
This story is depicted in stone at Virupaksha Temple, Pattadakal; Hoysaleswara temple, Halebidu; Ellora Caves, Aurangabad; Banteay Srey, Cambodia and many other temples. The following video is a collection of simplified animations used to narrate the entire episode in order to better explain the significance of the sculpture.
