Art in the Arab World

NPR has a special segment called “Look at This: NPR.” It is full of stories, shared through various digital means. “Arab Art Redefined” is a short presentation about the power behind contemporary art from the Arab world. The visuals are quite basic, a collection of still shots, mostly of works of art. The still shots are accompanied by a narrative voice, describing the significance of Arab art.
I think this piece of digital storytelling is quite basic, utilizing very simply skills, yet delivers a short, concise and engaging message. The artist himself who narrates the short clip describes art from the Arab world as a mode of communication with the west. He also says perhaps this visual art might have the “power the alter the narrative.”
The background music, voice over and photos come together in a simple, yet meaningful way. Basic storytelling through a digital platform with visuals and audio is something I hope to gain through this semester.
