Terms of service….what’s that?

I’ll admit I never read the terms and conditions, service, privacy policy, or whatever is consisted of many pages, with many words, and tons of rules. I just assume, agree, and sign. Isn’t that what everybody does?

Now of course if it was for a job or some legal contract I would for sure take the effort to skim however for social media or games I do not take the time to read.

I decided to look up Instagram's terms of service and conditions this however, was the first time that I had ever taken a peak at them before. I mean I had an Instagram account when it first started and never considered to read them even as things may have changed throughout the years.

First thoughts reading, I felt like the things discussed were the typical things that are mentioned in this agreement. However the first items discussed that caught me off guard was that Instagram “Doesn’t claim ownership of our content, but we grant them license to use it” and “Permission to use our username, profile picture, and information about our relationships and actions with accounts, ads, and sponsored content”. Like what??????

They said if we didn’t want this happening we would just have to delete our accounts. I get having social media we are putting our self out there in the world but no where did I agree to be used as free advertisement? But I am wrong because when I signed up I did agree to this.

Continuing on it seemed pretty normal stuff of inappropriate actions and how they would handle certain actions. Though I was taken to surprise by somethings I still don’t believe this has change my mindset on reading through terms and conditions. Though I do believe we should especially after watching the Inside Edition video on YouTube, I still will not make the effort unless I believe it is serious.
