The Internet is People

The internet is an extension of people. It’s a highly transformative tool which has broken down a number of social barriers that have long separated people be it by race, gender, orientation, age, class, nationality, creed, geographic location, etc. It’s effectively the next step (an every expanding one at that) into a globalized world.

The internet has long ceased existing as the fantasized Wild West and is now what it’s always been, another infinitely complex community for people to inhabit. Small Pieces Loosely Joined hits that proverbial nail on the head. The internet is tool, like many other things, which has become both a necessity for many people as well as a status symbol.

The number of people who cannot work professionally without the internet is growing. The internet allows for the formation of communities and subcultures that (for better or worse) could not have existed without it. However, at its core, the most important aspect about the internet is its ability to share ideas and create a global sense of compassion and human fellowship. Social media has the power to turn unspoken injustices into full blown movements, to save people’s lives, and make dreams come true. It can also do the opposite, and cause horrible atrocities no doubt, but the sort of people who do those things are being pushed father and father away and unaccepted. In my opinion, the internet has the ability to break down our notion of “the other” and make us one united human community.
