The Internet? Never heard of her.

In this day and age, online interactions are messy, secretive, and complicated as all hell. But that is not what the internet was meant to be when it was created. It was meant to be business-like and serious, for hard workers that needed a better way to file paperwork and collect data. Over the years it has evolved into a shit-show mix of helpful information/advice and pointless filler material.

It is a terrifying adventure of trying to make genuine connections, avoiding 40-year-old men that live in their moms’ basement, and just trying to get some online homework done before the deadline once a semester. I’m not trying to say that everyone experiences the internet in the same way, that would be too easy. This adventure comes in different shapes and sizes just like humans do because get this, we created this web of insanity!!

I love the internet. it keeps me up to date with news without having to get papercuts, and it lets me view free content that I wouldn't normally get to experience. I have made shakey friendships and temporary connections that were thrilling at the time and I wouldn't exchange it for any traipse through the woods with the neighborhood kids because the internet is like kryptonite to social anxiety. unfortunately with the positive comes the negative of me forgetting how to do research at a library because it is so much faster online.

so, what is the internet?

The internet is a circus. It is a complex system of interactions between people and AI’s stretching from all sides of the planet. It is access to information for people that don’t have any other way which is a double-edged sword- because if everyone has access that means criminals, creeps, and pedophiles are included and that just makes me feel icky.
