What is the internet?

The internet, to me, is a large communication device and a place for sharing. The internet is absolutely filled to the brim with different types of things, a wide variety of subjects. Almost everyone in the world is connected to the internet one way or another which gives anyone the chance to see whatever they want. Platforms like Youtube, Twitter, Instagram, or Snapchat are all ways to communicate with people you never thought you’d be able to. It makes long distance between people easy and creates a global online society. Youtube and Twitter are the two main platforms for people to share their lives, thoughts, and ideas freely on the internet. There are many, many things to do on the internet other than connecting, such as watching shows/movies, buying things, learning things, listening to music or podcasts, and so much more. The internet is confined to technology but it is so prominent in society that I cannot imagine how I’d live as an older person before it came along (I can imagine as a kid but once middle school rolls around I really don’t know).

I believe that the internet becomes different and even more complex as the days go on, it is getting bigger and better. Smarter and more interactive. I also think that you could say the internet is alive, just in the fact that most of the things on the internet are controlled and created by humans. Unless you want to get into the stuff done by bots and bot made things or viruses. I really appreciate the internet, with it I have made friends, been able to expand by opportunities, find what I like, and find people that I enjoy just to listen to or watch. It is a gift and a curse. In ways the internet is great because of everything it offers and it can be a safe haven but then again, everyone is on it. It is sometimes not a safe place because horrible people can access it. They are not using it to learn, expand, or create. They use the internet to be cruel, rude, manipulative, or just gross. Anyone can be anything and say anything without much punishment (unless we’re talking big crime-y stuff). It is a road to possibility but can also be a road to danger if you happen to stumble across the wrong thing.
