Instagram appears to be readying live streaming by users

Is it any surprise that Instagram would be playing around with the idea of live streaming in its app?

Some users have seen a Live icon pop up according to Russian website, TJournal (Thank goodness my browser will translate Russian), which published pictures showing a “Go Insta” button on the camera and a section titled “popular live broadcasts.”

Instagram has declined to comment, according to various sources including The Verge.

Video has become a very, very important part of social media’s strategy moving forward. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg said it’s the central point of his company’s future.

“In five years, most of [Facebook] will be video,” CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a town hall meeting in 2014

From Meerkat to Periscope to Facebook, live video streaming has changed the way many interact. Although Meerkat, the first popular app to market, has now shut down, Facebook is going full speed ahead… and now reportedly Instagram.

In 2015, the number of videos posted per person increased by 75%. In the US, the growth was a stunning 94%. The increase in quality cameras on phones, the rise in smart phones, and the ability to quickly snap and send, has certainly contributed to the increase.

On any given day, Facebook generated 8 billion video views if you set aside the recent controversy over how they are counted.

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?

By clapping more or less, you can signal to us which stories really stand out.
