Why People Don’t Trust Password Managers

When we at KeepSolid were just considering developing our own password management software called Passwarden, we wanted to see if the general public needed such a service. We did some market research and conducted a number of client surveys to see what our potential customers think about password managers. The results surprised us, so allow me to share with you some of the most curious findings.

Password Managers — Popular, yet Mysterious?

First of all, here’s what our surveys suggested. 62.7% of respondents said they use password managers to work with their passwords, as opposed to memorizing them (21.8%), writing them down (11.8%), or using a single password (3.6%). The same survey conducted on LinkedIn showed slightly different percentages, but an overall similar spread.

In another survey we asked what stops people from using password managers. 64.7% replied that they don’t trust them, 13.7% — that they’re too complicated, and 5.9% — that they don’t even know
