What are the eight things you need to know as a GovTech startup? How do public tenders work, and where can they be found? The DigitalAgenda Impact Awards finalists of 2019 gathered yesterday for a morning of workshops to discover the answers to these questions and receive personalised advice on working with government.

The workshops were The sessions were hosted by PUBLIC at the new PUBLIC Hall in Westminster. Topics included an introduction to public procurement and how to navigate public sector grant funding. Delegates also had time to chat with the PUBLIC team and met other GovTech companies in PUBLIC Hall.

Attendees had a wide-ranging breadth of problems they had faced in working with government in the past, from difficulties in finding a point of entry into working with the public sector, to problems with the tight budgets of local authorities and the amount of time taken to adopt new innovations.

Among the lessons learnt on the day was the importance of pitching your solution in the right way. Chiara Carlini, the Head of GovStart UK, emphasised the importance of communicating how your idea will solve the problem that is burning through government budgets each week. Chiara also highlighted the value of supporters at every level of government hierarchy, who can really push for your solution to be adopted quickly.

If you are interested in becoming part of the 2020 Impact Awards cohort, entries are now open for the DigitalAgenda Impact Awards. If you are working on social impact innovation, enter before the 16th December 2019 to be in with a chance of winning.
