When we imagine the future, we think of futuristic, space-age technology everywhere; in the streets, at work, and in our homes. The age of tech in homes may, however, already be here.

Speakers resembling modern art have been around for a while, but tech companies are now taking tech in home décor to the next level. One company has built a product fitted with NASA technology which purifies the air, whilst removing bacteria. In outdoor advertising style, you can now decorate your living room wall with ‘digital art’. In other words, a picture frame that can be loaded with different images or videos via an app. If you have pet fish, thanks to technology you can now purchase a self-feeding fish tank, or even a self-watering plant pot (for ultimate laziness). If you’ve forgotten what you put in the oven, advancements in Artificial Intelligence (AI) mean tech can now tell you what’s in the oven, and adjust the temperature accordingly. Ideal for germophobes, touching the filthy lid of your kitchen bin will soon be a thing of the past, as motion-sensor, self-opening bins are now available.

As time goes on and technology becomes more advanced, we’re likely to see more and more space-age products in our homes, making those ‘look to the future’ films seem even more realistic.

Augmented Reality (AR) has been impacting our choice of home décor for some time now. Cutting-edge AR technology enables you to visualise a product (perhaps a beautiful rug or wallpaper print) in certain rooms of your home before you purchase anything. Given the time and money AR and tech can save for both buyers and sellers, it’s clear to see the advantages of technology in home décor. This is further evidence the trend of innovative bins, speakers and air purifiers will be here for quite some time.
