Welcome to the Digital Interests Lab

Partially erased chalkboard with the phrase “Nothing about us without us”

Can you picture digital innovation that puts people first?

Imagination and inclusion guide the Digital Interests Lab’s approach to data technologies and the data industry. And we model these values through the composition of our research teams who cross career stages, social identities, and methodologies.

We are scholars of public interest technology. We believe digital innovation can empower, liberate, and transform human lives.

This is a multi-disciplinary lab meaning we bring the full academic toolkit to our research: data policy, economic sociology, information retrieval, applied ethics, multistakeholder governance, institutional theory, archival studies, human-computer interaction (HCI), and digital literacy to name a few. And we are just getting started.

Centered on human empowerment, informed by history, guided by theory, this is tech policy research for the rest of us.
