In august 2021 Hyundai made a considerable advance into the electric vehicle ecosystem with the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 5. They combined high-end features, innovative tech, and good fuel economy at an affordable price. Designed to influence average citizens into joining the EV wave the Ioniq 5 has definitely been getting people’s attention. Maybe the retro-futuristic design with the squared lights or its interior resembles a car, unlike the recent Tesla models with their bare-bones minimalistic design. Hyundai has done an exceptional job at providing advanced infotainment, an ultra-wide range, and fast charging up in just 18 minutes. This will allow users to have all these features on all trims with the base trim starting at $46,000.

The Interior is Not Bad but It’ll Do

Mostly known for its crazy exterior the inside of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 isn’t too bad, to be honest. All trims come equipped with Apple CarPlay and Andriod Auto which is all the average user will ever use but that’s not all it has to offer. With two 12.3-inch displays, one in the center, and one above the steering wheel it gives users better access to view driving controls or changes their entertainment without having to go through like 50 different menus. Unlike Tesla models 3, X, and Y which all have a single center display that controls everything. Also unlike Tesla, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 has physical climate control buttons and manual vents. The software inside this car is pretty good for its price. Hyundai has updated the Ioniq 5 with over-the-air updates which are reassuring for users to know the experience of the car will improve over time.

Safety, Machine Learning, and AR

The new Ioniq comes equipped with Hyundai’s Smart Sense drive assistance system. This includes automatic lane centering and automatic braking. It also comes equipped with a new adaptive cruise control system that uses Machine learning to improve itself. The system monitors the users driving habits and tendencies and learns to adjust the cruise control in the future. One cool thing is that the Ionqiq 5 is a built-in augmented reality system Hydunai is calling the Heads Up display. Basically what it does is it projects the navigator onto the windshield and as the user drives there is an arrow guiding them in real time. It also shows some normal info like speed and the upcoming turns or lane switches. It’s not perfect though, users seem to have difficulty viewing it in wet conditions or if you wearing sunglasses. Statistically, the Ioniq 5 won the IIHS Top Safety Pick for 2022 receiving the superior rating in Crashworthiness, Crash Avoidance & Mitigation, but got an average score for Seat Belts& Child Restraints.

Hyundais Ioniq 5 did a great job in trying to make a safe, fun, but affordable electric vehicle. It looks completely unlike any other SUV we’ve ever seen. It has all of the new features while still keeping some traditions to appeal to all audiences. It offers some innovative technology that helps it stand out from other common car manufacturers EVs like Kia, Ford, and Chevy. It does all this with the standard SE at $39,950, SEL at $46,250, and the limited at $51,100.
