Self-driving cars making a different world

Imagine a world where self-driving cars have taken over. It is not too much of a crazy thing to think about right now. Self-driving cars are already starting to exist, but we still have some time before the self-driving car becomes the cool new thing that everyone wants as tesla did with their electric cars.

One day, in the near future, this will be our reality. Self-driving cars could quite literally change how we look at public transportation and even personally owned transportation. They could change the whole transportation industry to something completely different than what we currently are used to.

To make your life easier

Having a self-driving car would make lives easier and less stressful.

A huge plus for parents would be no more driving your kids to school, to sports practice, to tutoring, to friends’ houses, etc. Instead of taking the time to go, just have the car take them and you can continue working or relaxing or taking time to learn a new skill or finding a hobby you enjoy.

Hate going to the mechanic/dealership to get your car serviced? Of course you do! It is such a hassle dealing with mechanics and making the time to take the car to get serviced. You always get stuck there for hours or have to get a ride from someone unless you go to a nice enough dealership where they give you a loaner car but that does not happen all the time. If you have a self-driving car then, your car just drives itself to the mechanics while you are at work or home or doing anything but dealing with the mechanic. Or you could just not own a car and instead request one when needed and still not have to deal with any of the maintenance.

Make driving safer

Self-driving cars will make the world safer and prevent accidents. Right now, people are stupid and think they are better and can do anything. You have plenty of people out there speeding like crazy, lane jumping, cutting people off, brake checking, and all the other things people do. But with a self-driving car, you will not have any of that. You will have the car being in control and following the actual rules of the road.

Way to make extra money

Think about it. You could own a self-driving car, and have it drive you to work and then home from work every day. But for those 8ish hours where you are sitting in your office that car is currently just sitting in a parking lot. But what if you could make money with your car while making money at your real job. What if you could send your car to drive other people to work or send your car to run errands with someone else. It could be like uber but without an actual driver.

Something like this could be amazing to have but it could also really hurt the Uber/Lyft business unless they find some way to work with the new technology. There could be a new app that comes out where people can list their car as available and others can request it just like uber but without the driver. A new way of car sharing could emerge from amazing self-driving cars.

Do I even need to own a car?

Another side of this is that people might not see a need to even own a car anymore. Why own a car when you can just request it when you needed? Why deal with the headache of dealing with all the maintenance, insurance, and all the extra costs associated with owning a car? The possible downfall in car owners would really hurt car dealerships.

Pros/Cons

Self-driving cars have pros and cons just like everything else. The new technological advances almost always make our lives easier however they also almost always take away something previous generations had to do and learn themselves.

Take for example all the prepped meal plans going around or how easy it is to just order food. Instead of learning to cook, you can just order weekly deliveries or order from a restaurant. Makes your life easier and you never have to learn how to cook. You never experience the failures of cooking too!

The same thing will apply to self-driving cars and driving. You will have those people who just rely on this technology and decide that they don’t have to learn or know how to drive or that their kids don’t need to take the time to learn how to drive.

Future

While we do not know how this will unravel or exactly when it will happen, we can be pretty certain that we will get to the point where self-driving cars are part of our norm. Technology is advancing at extreme rates and we will be here or even past this fairly soon.
