Final Sprint: “March”ing On!
In this final blog post, I want to address a couple of things- first: a brief overview of our process in sprint 4 and 5, and second, how we envision this project to continue if somebody picks it up in the future.
Quick Recap of Sprint 4:
We ended sprint 3 with creating different functions for the hologram-like AI quiz, Interactive fire and Video highlights and each of these functions created a WoW effect but by themselves they weren’t versatile enough to cover all our “stay-in-the-moment” focus points (SensoryScape, Placemaking, Social Interaction, Gain Creator and Sense of Home). So in sprint 4, we thought of a way of tying these different functions together by creating a character for the hologram which will play these functions based on the situation and context (like the type of event, number of people around the hologram, or time during the day of the event, etc). The character would also serve as a personal “host” to thousands of people coming to the Arena and interact with them in other ways. For example, we imagined creating our host-based Johan Cruijff’s personality and possibly also leveraging his ardent fan-following to build a feeling of a sense of home with the Arena. Our character would interact with passing-by customers by reacting with famous, quirky quotes of Johan Cruijff. We imagined that in situations where Ajax won the football game, the character would host a mass karaoke as people assembled around the hologram and play the Ajax theme song since a significant proportion of people often do that outside the stadium on their way back to the metro station.
Quick Recap of Sprint 5:
In sprint 5, we started with thinking about different types of 3D data that can possibly be showcased in the hologram. We came up with a variety of information that can be shown such as Fifa-style web charts of player performance statistics, traffic information to important areas of Amsterdam and other cities, people activity inside and outside arena, Energy consumption information, etc. We then tested these ideas in places with similar settings to Arena like Museumplein and HvA University canteen to take the feedback on our ideas. We realized that people were quite interested in seeing event specific data like player performance statistics.
Sprint 6: Wrapping up!
Thus, after sprint 5, we had a rich data about both list of ideas and the results about what people would like to see. Due to the limited time we had remaining in sprint 6 and to do justice to different ideas we had for the hologram, we decided to create a guideline of our ideas based on our research. The purpose of it was two-fold- first, we wanted to create a more solid framework for choosing a content for our space, and second, we wanted to summarize our ideas and research into a more compact form that could be passed on to future learners which might help them to come up with an ideal solution which could be an amalgamation of our own ideas or perhaps some different cool, novel ideas.
To help them assess our focus points more quantitatively, we broke down each of our concepts based on certain questions as shown below:
We also added a feasibility criteria to take into account the ease-of-execution parameter for any idea.
The aim was to give the ideators and decision-makers an infographic that will help them to visualize their ideas and then subsequently measure them based on our “stay-in-the-moment” research focus points and then perhaps even improve upon the initial idea to have a more versatile solution.
