Digital wallets are electronic devices that allow users to make electronic transactions. Their revolution is changing the payment landscape, our personal experiences, and business operations.

Here’s our current list of the top 10 best mobile wallets out there…

Electrum — Software Wallet

Electrum is a fast & lightweight wallet for desktop and mobile users. It has a long list of supported features to make it one of the most flexible wallets today. It offers cold storage solutions, integration with hardware wallets (KeepKey, Nano Ledger S, Trezor), and has the ability to achieve anonymity (with Tor). On the security side, Electrum enables multi-sig support, and it’s not tied to a centralized server, so server downtime should not be an issue. Electrum is an established software wallet solution out there that warrants a try-out. The wallet also stores Ethereum based tokens, as well as other cryptocurrencies. It acts as a key to using decentralised applications on the Ethereum blockchain. The wallet does not download the entire Bitcoin blockchain. It only indexes the blockchain, and hence it’s relatively quick. It is available on the Linux, Windows, Mac, and Android platforms. By using the wallet you can sign transactions from a computer that is always offline.

Xapo

Xapo is an intuitive and secure Bitcoin wallet system that operates through a browser. It’s one of the best Android based digital wallets out there. Xapo uses offline servers that are never connected to the internet, which gives it an edge over other web based wallet systems — i.e. better security through gateway procedures. Wall Street Journal called the wallet the Fort Knox of Bitcoin. Xapo gives users everything they need in order to buy, sell, and spend bitcoins online. They also offer a debit card and free “Vault” storage. The debit card links directly to your wallet and lets you withdraw from your account at ATMs. The Company also supports a prepaid debit card system that is compatible with most PoS systems and Bitcoin ATM’s. So you can have a very secure third-party managed system, with a hot wallet, to run around with on the go that can be topped up via an internet connection.

Mycelium

With the Mycelium wallet, you can send and receive bitcoins with bank-grade security. Mycelium is an Android-based, multi-asset, cryptocurrency wallet that has been tested by hundreds of thousands of users. At the time of writing this, Mycelium had the best rating on Google Play. The Mycelium team has integrated the wallet with a variety of third-party service providers to bring new and emerging applications into a realm of usefulness that can only be achieved with native functionality and a high degree of user trust. Developers are currently integrating it with Cashila, Glidera, Coinapult, Trezor, and Ledger. Mycelium also has hardware wallets and is working to further the development of decentralized applications (Dapps). Its development team (who are constantly upgrading the software) are now working on a personal finance tool to pay your bills and manage your finances and investments. Mycelium is among the top Ethereum wallets and the best Bitcoin wallets. It is available in 12 languages, translated by volunteers.
