The Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Project is an open source initiative that embodies the vision that publishers can create mobile optimized content once and have it load instantly everywhere.

Publishers rejoice! A new way to build pages for static content has arrived, and this time backed by Google.

Probably by now you’ve come to realize this carousel of highlights when you’re mobile searching for something in Google. This is a response to Facebook Instant Articles and projects alike.

This carousel are a collection of AMP powered web pages that allow for the user to click and instantaneously browse the full content page without having to access the source website.

For developers, this means you’ll have to keep two versions of your page, an HTML one and the AMP-HTML version, you still have to keep your desktop version as it is, but provide a way for google to know you have an AMP version to deliver if available.

I would say this is still a very early stage to assume if this is going to be the future for publishers or not, but it’s worth a try, specially if you’re trying to hit those top stops in google searches.

So go ahead, play on: https://www.ampproject.org
