What If We Stopped Bashing Each Other?

For the first time in our history, the vast majority of people who are joining have had no prior Direct Selling experience.

The following is a transcript from part of a talk given by Tom “Big Al” Schreiter at the Mastermind Event 2013 VIP dinner.

Imagine if only 1% of the population had ever bought cars, and most people were skeptical if cars would ever catch on.

Now imagine you owned a Toyota dealership where you and your salesmen told everyone who came in to look for a car that Toyotas were great, and every other car on the road was crap. And if they bought any car from a non-Toyota dealership they would lose money and get ripped off.

And what if the Ford dealership did the same. They said their cars were the best, and if you bought a car from another dealer, you would regret it for the rest of your life.

And what if Mercedes, BMW, GM, Nissan, Honda, Hyundai, Audi, Chevy, Cadillac, Jaguar, Tesla, Mitsubishi, Porsche, Tesla, Infiniti, etc all behaved the same way?

What if, every car dealer did this?

The general public would be afraid of buying a car, and the car industry would stagnate.

And for the most part, that is exactly what we have been doing in Network Marketing.

We find the 1% of people who want to do Network Marketing, and just steal them from one car model to the next. We never think that we are poisoning the huge 99% of the untapped market.

Over the last few years that has changed. Instead of mostly stealing people from each other’s companies, we have actively reached out to the 99% of the market who has never done Network Marketing before.

And it is working. Lots of new, enthusiastic people who have never before been involved in Network Marketing are joining.

For the first time in our history, the vast majority of people who are joining have had no prior Direct Selling experience.

What changed?

Maybe it is the group who attend the Mastermind Event. These leaders have influenced their teams to stop stealing people from other people’s organization and to instead, concentrate on the huge 99% of the market who would love our profession… especially if everyone in our profession stopped telling the 99% that their competitors were crap.

What if we took to heart what Art Jonak, the founder of the Mastermind Event, said 10 years ago, “I believe in Direct Selling, a rising tide will indeed lift all ships. I’m in competition with no one, I hope we all make it!”
