Capitalism: Endgame
We have reached its inevitable conclusion
It is no shock that the idea of socialism is being talked about more and more in mainstream media. Socialism is the proper response to the failure of capitalism. If you listened to the Trump administration, you might believe that everything is going smoothly. The President claims that the economy is strong and his policies are responsible. He and his cronies will reference higher GDP growth, a low unemployment rate, and higher nominal wage growth. However, when you pull back the curtain on these seemingly positive numbers, you see a rotten system.
We need to begin thinking critically about the society we have created through capitalism. Are we satisfied with the outcomes we have chosen? Capitalism is often pushed as allowing everyone equal opportunity, not equal outcomes. The problem here is that we don’t have anything close to equal opportunity, but ironically we do have equal outcomes. Outside of a select group of people at the very top, the outcome for most is bleak.
Let’s start with this so-called “equal opportunity” that capitalism supposedly offers. We know that opportunity isn’t equal in the United States.
