I’m sure a number of your childhood memories were filled with Muppets. They kept you company and taught you how to count and say words. These magical creatures had the rare ability to educate you and entertain you at the same time. However, the characters that filled your early years had much different beginnings.

Jim Henson’s original creations doled out a slapstick type of comedy that could be violent at points. They were advertising devices that sold coffee, snacks, and noodles. They were designed to catch the attention of adults with money and not specifically children. It sounds utterly strange doesn’t it? These initial commercials are what helped make Henson a household name. Without them, there might have never been a Sesame Street or Muppet Show.
