Both of New York’s U.S. Senators, dozens of State Assemblymembers, and popular U.S. Representatives from New York Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Jamaal Bowman have called for Cuomo’s resignation after Democratic Party officials faced increased pressure this week to speak out on the mounting allegations of sexual harassment and COVID-19 data cover-ups carried out by the embattled New York Governor.

On March 25th of last year, nearly a full year ago, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo issued a statewide advisory in collaboration with the New York Department of Health preventing nursing homes from denying patient admissions based on the patient’s COVID-19 status. This opened the door for COVID-positive patients to be admitted to long-term-care facilities where chronic staffing shortages and a lack of funding and essential resources led to tens of thousands of unnecessary COVID infections and over 15,000 nursing home deaths in New York State as of March of 2021.
