Progressives Have Their Eyes on Senate Seats.

A Grassroots Organization is setting their sights on a few high profile lawmakers.

As relieved as I and I’m sure countless others are about Donald Trump being removed from office, there’s no denying that the 2020 was an incredibly bittersweet ordeal filled with lots of highs and lows for those of us on the left here in the United States. Going from Bernie Sanders nearly having the nomination locked down to having the Democratic Establishment consolidate in rapid consolidation around Joe Biden just days before Bernie became the Democratic nominee was not only a difficult pill to swallow, but a learning moment as well. A moment that taught us what we are truly up against in terms of the power within the party, and the lengths that conservative Democrats will go to retain it.

That said, we also saw just how close we continue to come, and that with each election that passes and the more organized we get, the better our chances become to achieve more substantive power for the left. Perhaps one of the best known organizations working towards that goal is Justice Democrats, and some of their alumni with their own PAC have recently made it known who their upcoming targets will be.

Politico recently reported that No Excuses PAC — a group cofounded by Saikat Chakrabarti, Corbin Trent and Zack Exley from Justice Democrats — have set their sights on Senate Democrats. Citing their opposition for eliminating the fillibuster in order to get legislation passed more efficiently and without Republican obstruction, No Excuses has already put West Virginia’s Joe Manchin and Arizona’s Krysten Sinema at the top of their list for 2024.

Frankly, the longer these lawmakers know that their power is being challenged, the better.

While Justice Democrats were ultimately unsuccessful in beating Joe Manchin in his primary in 2018, circumstances have undeniably changed significantly since then. With Democrats’ newfound control of the Senate with a slim majority, Joe Manchin has not hesitated at all to flex his position as one of the most powerful people in the Senate’s Democratic caucus and the government overall, and predictably not in a way we would hope.
