In the beginning of September 2022, Elon Musk developed a beef with the Jewish hate-monitoring organization called the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) in a series of posts to his newly-acquired social media platform called X, in which he alleged how the group was responsible for pressuring advertisers away from sending the platform money in the form of ad revenue. For instance, on September 4th, Musk sent out a post in which he claimed that the platform’s U.S. advertising revenue was “down 60%” because the ADL was allegedly pressuring advertisers away from sending the platform ad revenue “so they almost succeeded in killing X/Twitter!” he typed.¹

“Based on what we’ve heard from advertisers, ADL seems to be responsible for most of our revenue loss,” Musk posted a few hours later on the same day at approximately 6:04 PM. “Giving them maximum benefit of the doubt, I don’t see any scenario where they’re responsible for less than 10% of the value destruction, so ~$4billion.
