The United States Has Committed Endless 9/11s

While mainstream U.S. institutions solemnly memorialize 9/11, we must “never forget” the countless victims of our own murderous government.

The attacks of 9/11/01 were the result of U.S. imperialism. Beginning two decades earlier, the perpetrators (al-Qaeda, which was an offshoot of the mujahideen) were armed and trained by the CIA to overthrow the socialist/feminist government of Afghanistan and weaken the USSR.

There was a lesser known “9/11” also resulting from U.S. imperialism. On September 11, 1973, a CIA-backed military coup ousted Salvador Allende, the democratically-elected socialist president of Chile, paving the way for two decades of brutal capitalist dictatorship.

Under the rule of General Augusto Pinochet, more than 3,000 people were murdered and more than 30,000 were tortured. These two “9/11”s are part of a broader history of prolific bloodshed initiated by the United States.

In what could be described as revenge for 9/11, the U.S. embarked on the global “War on Terror,” which included rendition, assassination, torture camps, the displacement of tens of millions, incalculable destruction, and at least 4.5 million deaths (1,500 9/11s).

The terrorism of the 9/11/01 attacks pales in comparison to the terrorism the U.S. has committed. Some of the most…
