Why Joe Picked Kamala.

It isn’t because she’ll bring more voters to his campaign.

To be sure, I suppose there could have been worse picks Joe Biden could have made for a running mate than Kamala Harris, but none more predictable. I know I’m not the only one who found it slightly irritating that this entire selection process had been turned in to such a long, drawn out spectacle when at the end of the day, the presumptive democratic nominee ended up choosing the woman many had expected he would go with right from the very beginning. I also find it quite telling that after the murder of George Floyd sparked the largest civil rights movement in world history and prompted calls to defund the police, Joe Biden and his team selected a top cop from California, who had once laughed at the the thought of the mothers her office was prosecuting for truancy when their children didn’t show up to school. It isn’t surprising that at a moment when millions are demanding change, the democratic party has gone with the same conventional neoliberalism that has gotten us here in the first place.

Having said that, it is certainly worth considering — especially when planning for elections down the line — why it was that Kamala Harris ultimately emerged victorious.
