In the year that Carvalho has been the LAUSD’s Superintendent, he has accumulated many nicknames. Some call him “Mr. Hollywood,” keying in on his propensity for attending events with celebrities, sometimes pushing them out of the spotlight, and splashing the pictures across his Twitter feed. Others refer to “Miami Vice,” in recognition of both his former place of employment and the fact that he is always dressed in clothing that looks like it came out of Crockett and Tubbs’ closets.
