How often do you get to buy fresh crabs off the boat from fishermen who just came back from a day’s fishing trip out in the Pacific ocean?

Thanks to a pilot initiative by the Port of San Francisco, you can now have a taste of what is quite possibly the freshest seafood in the Bay Area.

Just three weeks ago, right before the dawn of the new year, local fishermen were permitted to start selling crabs off their boats directly to eager customers pouring into the pier. The online hype for crab season ramped up too: messages started flooding a Facebook group that local fisherman Matt Juanes set up as a hub for conversations on which boats are selling, how much the crabs cost, and the best way to cook crab. With all of the demand, we knew we had to support Matt in getting his fresh catches to his customers, so we set up our very own seasonal San Francisco Crab Shop.

The customer reviews and proud displays of delicious home cooked crab dishes bear testament to a loyal community of people who support our local fishing economy:

You could be whipping up these restaurant-quality crab entrees in your kitchen too. Head to the pier, make sure you carry cash with you, and buy the freshest, liveliest crabs from your friendly local fishermen.

You can pre-order for pickup directly from fishermen Matt and Holly, or if you can’t make it to the San Francisco pier or don’t want to wait in line, we deliver to your doorstep!

Crab season lasts from now till May but prices go up in February due to decreasing supply. Go get your claws on some crabs before they’re gone.
