“I started looking for a tech company that is building a music-related product, ideally in Berlin. IDAGIO was the perfect match for me — a company using the latest technologies to achieve the lofty goal of reviving classical music.”

Feeling the need for a change from agency work, Gilad made the move to Berlin this January and joined us at IDAGIO. He completes the Android Team and brings his passion for music and technology to IDAGIO, which we are very happy about. Here is a bit more background to the story…

1. You just started with IDAGIO as an Android Developer, what made you decide to join us?

I have always been passionate about music. I play guitar, drums, and keyboard. Music is just a part of who I am. I have been working as an Android developer for over 6 years and before I joined Idagio, I decided it was time to incorporate my passion for music into my professional life.

I started looking for a tech company that is building a music-related product, ideally in Berlin. IDAGIO was the perfect match for me — a company using the latest technologies to achieve the lofty goal of reviving classical music. From the first interview at IDAGIO, I just felt at home.

2. What does a typical day at IDAGIO look like?

It is always nice to come into the office in the morning and see the grand Steinway piano winking at you. It is even nicer to stay late till the office is empty and just play for yourself on that amazing instrument.

The atmosphere in the office is great. Our team is full of really nice and interesting people, who mostly share the same passion I have for music. In my first week at IDAGIO, we had a classical/jazz concert in the office. It was amazing — I really like the idea of a casual classical concert without the sterile, museum-like feeling. Some of the team members at IDAGIO are actually professional level performers. It was exciting to witness such great musicians perform first-hand.

3. What do you do for fun? Any crazy hobbies?

I like fun [laughs]. I have a lot of hobbies and the problem I’ve always had is prioritising them. I practice Capoeira, which is a great combination of sport, music and community; I play guitar, drums and keyboard and just recently I set up a music room in my apartment.

When not enjoying the above, I play Table-Tennis, Snooker, Chess, Football and sometimes enjoy a board-game night. But, like I said, prioritising is the main challenge…

4. Any advice for young aspiring developers out there?

My most important advice is to follow your passion. You spend most of your time at work — you’d better spend it doing something you really care about and feel truly excited about.

In the last months I have changed every aspect of my life in order to pursue my passion.
