We just launched IDAGIO Free to listeners everywhere

With our latest launch, we are proud to be the first audio streaming service to offer listeners a classical music catalogue of this size and quality at no cost.

Today’s the day — we’re excited to share with you something HUGE we’ve been working on. Introducing, IDAGIO Free! From today onwards, classical music listeners everywhere will be able to browse, listen and discover with our comprehensive catalogue for absolutely free. To start listening, all you need is an email address. No hidden costs, no credit card required — just all the music you love in one place.

So, why now?

Back in 2015, we launched IDAGIO at the Salzburg Festival with one goal: to become the destination for classical music by creating the first streaming service designed specifically for the genre. Four years later, with users in over 190 countries and more than 1.6 million app downloads, we’re launching a free option, so that even more people can have the biggest collection of classical music in their pocket.

And what’s available?

There are now three different ways to listen on our platform: with IDAGIO Free, IDAGIO Premium or IDAGIO Premium+.

With IDAGIO Free, you can get access to our service without starting a subscription. There are a few features, however, that will remain exclusive to our Premium and Premium+ subscribers. For example, with IDAGIO Premium and IDAGIO Premium+, you can play whole albums, playlists, recordings and tracks on-demand, offline and whenever you want. IDAGIO Free users can browse and listen to our complete collection using the Radio mode, meaning you can select and play any album, playlist, recording or composer, and we’ll play you recommendations based on that selection. Another difference between the options is the personal Collection and offline mode, which will remain exclusive to the paid packages. There will also be a higher sound quality available for IDAGIO Premium and Premium+.

Why IDAGIO?

Our mission is to create the best possible music streaming platform for classical music fans and artists.

We’ve done this by spending time working closely with listeners to understand what is needed, in terms of metadata, features and design, for them to get the most out of IDAGIO. We believe that by keeping the ‘heart’ in our platform — by being made up of people who know and love classical music — we can offer classical fans the most authentic connection with the genre.

The other key part of our service is working closely with artists, labels and rights holders to ensure that we can empower them through IDAGIO. We also use a Fair Artist Payment Model, which means we’ll always pay artists and rights holders fairly. That means two things — firstly that we pay artists and rights holders per second instead of per play, and secondly that we distribute royalties based on the actual listening behavior of each single user.
