Patitapabana- this miniature image of Jagannatha was installed at the entrance so that everyone could see him. Historically, the idol was installed by the King Ramachandra Deba, who was denied entry into the temple after he married a Muslim princess.

There’s another legend that another false image of Jagannatha was used to fool Kalapahada into believing it was the main deity. That idol is the famous Bata Jagannatha/Abakasha under the Kalpa Bata.
