In the month of Kartika, Lord Jagannatha is worshipped with Radha. Since he is now married to Goddess Lakshmi, he meekly asks her for permission to be worshipped along with the now-forgotten Radha. That is, his wife shall give him permission to be worshipped with his childhood lover. In this curious ritual, it is only after the Goddess grants the permission that he can be worshipped with his beloved Radha.

Curiously, Lord Jagannatha celebrates all other festivals with Lakshmi, and not with Radha as elsewhere- that is, the story is consistent.
