Gosani is a term of reverence for a lady. When all the ladies of the Brahmin household shifted to another settlement outside the then town of Berhampur, the new settlement was named ‘Gosani-Nuagaon.’ However, in Puri, the term ‘Gosani’ is simply a term of affection, no way linked to social hierarchy.
