Vishnu and Shiva

Specials | Harihara Besha

On Mondays of Kartika, one half of Lord Balabhadra is dressed in white cloth, while the other half is dressed in black cloth. The White half represents the fair-skinned Shiva while the Dark half symbolises the dark-skinned Vishnu. Thus, this form is their union, the composite deity Harihara.

The same ideology is at the root of the Harishankar Temple of Odisha.
