Where Rama has a Beard

Odagaon, Nayagarh

Raghunath Jew at Odagaon

During his exile, Rama stopped by at Atri’s hermitage with his brother Lakshmana and wife Sita. The sage offered him fruits and treated him well. The next morning, he left the hermitage and went southwards. To mark his visit, the sage worshipped three pieces of stone. Later, these were shaped into three idols. Since Rama and Lakshmana had visited the spot during their exile, they hadn’t shaved their beards. And so these idols of Rama & his brother are the only ones with untrimmed moustaches and beards.
