So you’re interested in Economics, environmental policy, and Law — you’ve started to realise how interconnected they are, and you want to learn more.

Where do you start?

Pursuing your academic interests outside of school through supercurricular activity is a great way to show us you’re engaged. But how can you do that for Land Economy, a subject that is unique to Cambridge?

Yes, Land Economy is unique to Cambridge, but the subjects that Land Economy brings together are everywhere, interacting in different ways. Once you know what to look for, you can’t get away from it. Here’s a few ideas to get you started on your supercurricular exploration:

  • The news. Read it, watch it, follow it on Twitter — whatever works for you.
  • A news magazine, like the Economist or the Financial Times. Longer, in-depth articles on a variety of issues.
  • Books. Check out this reading list for some books relevant to Land Economy.
  • Attend a lecture. There are events happening all the time, many of them free, with fascinating speakers — you may even find one near you.
  • HE+. A great online resource that gives an introduction to university-level thinking and learning.
  • Attend court. Interested in law and legal issues? This is a great, free way to see what law is like off the TV screen.
  • Work experience or shadowing. Takes more effort (and often luck!) to arrange, but can help you understand what working in various fields would be like. Remember, while work experience might be useful to you, we don’t require it!

Remember that for any and all supercurricular activities, we’re interested in your experience. We’re looking for more than a list of books you’ve read or events you attended. We want to know what you got out of the experience.

What did that book make you think?

What questions do you have after attending that lecture?

What do you want to learn about next?

For more information on what we’re looking for in an applicant, see the University’s website.
